l/o: to understand and practice using the principles of film making. 


shot type: 

establishing shot is wide enough to establish geography, time of day and is usually used to open scenes.

wide shot(ws) the wide shot positions subjects far from camera to show there surroundings to make subjects seem lost, lonely or subjects relation to others.

long shot subject is put in middle of frame to show subjects feelings show them in all there glory 

medium full shot showing from face to just bellow there waist. makes think of cowboys used to make subject look confident 

medium shot mutual shot starts above waist ends just above there head, shows a lot in just a single frame, use it when need to dig into subjects eyes while showing surroundings 

medium close up reduces distractions used to get intimate with subject without loosing anything, capture subjects reaction to things, medium close up head to chest.

close up arranged at eye level to dig into the eyes to see soul, close up is about empathy.

extreme close up frames subject without anything else often used on eyes. highlights something crucial to narrative.  

framing

singles shows one character in frame primary focus show characters isolation dirty single someone else in frame but blurred in background. 

two shot two characters in frame both faces clearly visible more characters called three shot four shot and so on, there is no official limit for the numbers to stop easier to call it crowd shot

over the shoulder perspectives from both side makes audience feel included in moment.

point of view cover wide range of perspectives, see what they see hear what they hear.

insert extremely tight on a detail combined with pov shots or third person perspective.

angles  

low angle any shot bellow subjects eye line, used to make subject look more powerful, mainly used for villain or hero

high angle can beat subject down, typically used to make character seem wear used to show citys landscapes or surroundings. 

over head shot directly above subject great to show complex moves.

dutch angle produces wide variety of effect make audience feel unease terror or magnify tention. 

eye level shot communally used camera hight, is engaging and dynamic breaks forth wall.

shoulder level shot used during convocations, enhance affectionate glance. 

hip level shot often used in cowboy shots because gun holsters rest at hip hight builds tension.

knee level shot travel envioment following encounter.

ground level shot placed on ground double as low angles stylish way to capture characters moment, full of dynamic movement. 

movement

static shot no camera movement at all great for dialog allow actors performance to shine, trap a character in helpless moments. 

pan rotates camera horizontally to revel information of character,

slow pan highens energy of shot 

whip pan used to create energy between characters  

tilt directs camera up or down capture technicality give character golimance or variability revels information, character, setting or scale. 

push in shot moves camera toward subject visually que that somethings important, push in to object or text direct attention to certain detain or capture characters thoughts. 

pull out dempsizes subject unveil context of sense, show negative emotions such as loneliness or helplessness 

zoom show context of character sense, create uneasiness. highlights madness. 

crash zoom used for dramatic or comedic effect.

dolly zoom creates vertigo effect, dolly in while zoom out cause background to grow while character goes in, creates internal or external, highlight growing relationship between two subjects. 

camera roll unsettling movement match character movement in moments of panic or conflict, visually reinforce theme.

tracking shot physically moves camera with subject, create document style of effect, build tention.

trucking shot follows character from left or right side. 

arc shot camera movement moves around subject add dynamic movement.  

all camera moments can be combined to make the sense more thrilling and to add dynamic also builds up tension.

In this short film they use many shots in one of the first scenes they use a hip level shot of the guy walking into his kitchen. Another shot they use is a pov shot of the guy getting something out of the cupboard, they also use a dirty single shot of the guy being the primary focus and someone else blurred in the background, they also use a wide shot to show the characters surroundings.
